Generasi Intelijen - Gie

I'll read his book soon and then let's see if my first impression on him will remain or change....

Too Much is just Too Much

My body has finally spoke to me: too much is just too much!

I spent the last 1 month travelling between 3 to 4 places in a day, worked 14 hours a day. Not that it bored me, my works were and still are excited me enough to spur my energy on them.

Then I went practising basketball last saturday (a week ago). There's upcoming Medco games and this will be the first time we have basketball women team. So i was very excited. Unfortunately I did stupid mistake, didn't do enough warming up and while defensing i fell and bumped my right leg. Uh it hurt a lot!

The consequence was not to ask. I couldn't play in the first game (and looks like I won't again in the next game...). But still, as if I'm a good employee (AM I???), I still went to work on monday (tho finally cancelled 3 meetings in the afternoon cause I was advised to stay put in office by company medics), and then on tuesday and wed. When I showed up tuesday morn in of the project office, my bosses were so surprised. They actually thought I'd stay at home. Hah, I'd love to if there wasn't any pressure over my head to keep working. How could I not go, there's a negotiation to pull off on wed, and there's no one I could delegate it to. I tried but the other manager refused so there was I, dragging my feet into Pertamina's building.

Thanks God we get a long holiday this weekend. 5 days should be enough to recharge my body, tho my leg recovery seems to be much slower than I expected. I know I shouldn't treat myself as a superwoman. There's a limit to everything and I need to learn mine...

Funny thing is, my Dad is a bit happy I got injured. He said to his guests last night, it made me stay at home! hahahaha....

Germany: finding the nation thru Football

I accidentally arrived at this Spiegel website while searching for news about Juergen Klinsmann a.k.a Klinsi, my fav football player and coach.

Resting my injured right leg, i watched "Kick-off of Bundesliga (German League)" and saw news about Klinsi stepping down from coach position. Being a German supporter through out the last World Cup (actually back from 90's World Cup), i was equally dissapointed as any of his fans. He has brought lively performance to German team. Ever since I became German supporter, I had to dealt with the fact and critism that Germany always plays that boring defensive style. And yes that was something I had to admit... tho I'm a fan of the German national team, I rarely watch Bundesliga simply because Premiere or Serie A is more attractive.

But this is just history now (and hopefully will). The German team in this 06'World Cup was one of the teams that played attractive attacking football! All thanks to Klinsi and his refreshing coaching style. Seeing his blond handsome face in the bench, jumping around, was also a big plus for my eyes... :D

So it's so sad that he finally decided to end his era and go back to his family in US. But then all his fans have to respect his decision, be sured that he has left a remarkable change in the team, his legacy.

What surprised me tho wasn't any of this chit chat about Klinsi, but lots of articles in Spiegel. The main topic is clear... it's all about Germany finding back the nation thru Football, thru 06'World Cup, thru great entertaining performance of their national team. If many people are still questioning how can sport or football in this particular case, make changes in this getting-smaller world, then they should read these articles.

I had nice and bad experiences while visiting Germany. One of the bad things includes one time when I met smugged face from a non-english speaking waitress in a small restaurant in Dusseldorf. I think at that time, she thought I couldn't pay the breakfast set I tried hard to order. It was only 5 euro!

But reading thru that Spiegel articles, it seems the last World Cup has changed it all.

I can understand how Germans in majority feel the pressure to bow their heads down, sort of low profiling themselves, considering their so to speak dark past. It's not just dark but ugly and dark. The same thing happened to Japaneses I guess. Tho for sure Japaneses got back on their feet much faster. But I never thought before that this pressure goes so deep among Germans that it's difficult for them to raise their national flag without feeling guilty and connected to their past sin. If you're a Neo Nazi, it's ok for you to show off the flag. But if you're an ordinary German, it seems to be an embarassment, a reminder that you are being to proud and destructive.

So it's good to read that the greatest achievement of the World Cup was an opportunity to find and show a different Germany, a nice one. That showing off nation pride is not merely Neo Nazi's syndrome or contaminated by political influence.

I'm looking forward to my next visit to Germany... hope it's gonna a good one again.

Above all, Congrats to Germany once more!
