hem, to me this movie is so much simplier in telling the whole story than average holywood movies. no exaggeration in tears, humor, tragedy n so on.
it presents life and fact as it is. when you have a disabled child (epilepsy), this is the fact you need to go through. difficult relationship (
but hey, even with normal children, you'll still have difficulty right?), suffering, patient, limitation, and embarassment.
i'd say, the strongest message would be what strength and dignity these children carry on their wrecked bodies!
Paolo and Nadine prefer to go through their suffering by themselves. there's a scene where a nurse/doctor(?) places lots of sensors on Paolo's head to monitor his conditions. Paolo insists Gianni to go away and leave him alone. at first Gianni understand not why he has to go, the nurse/doctor doesn't say anything to him. then Paolo says something like "you see what he's doing to me. i don't want you to be here. go away. go. get out.". wow...i was like...wow...this child...his body is sick but for sure his mind is not. how many normal adults would have the same strength and dignity??????
along the journey, Paolo keeps sharing his strength to Gianni, who in turn learns how to accept his son and to appreciate him as he deserves.
my other fav lines: at the end of the movie, Gianni cries n Paolo stands next to him and hugs him so close while saying..."don't cry. i'm with you, why you're still crying?"
